~BEL OKIMONO Elephant ivory, representing an ishidôrô lantern, the ivory tinted brown and treated to give the illusion of stone, birds on the roof of the lantern, from which ivy starts with foliage with light highlights of green pigment, running down the ringed shaft to the foot where two monkeys stand, the base incised with branches and signed Ichiryûsai. Japan, early Meiji period, 19th century. A FINE CARVED IVORY ISHIDÔRÔ SHAPED OKIMONO, JAPAN, EARLY MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY. HEIGHT. 18 CM (7 1/16 IN.)
