Lot no. 348
BELGIUM. Rare "Queen Elisabeth" model 1917 steel helmet with movable protective visor, painted khaki, visor pierced with fine horizontal slits, metal roundels in the national colours on each side, no inner cap but leather chinstrap (restored at one end). ABE This helmet was designed by Dr Weekers, an ophthalmologist at the University of Liège. Approximately 1,000 were manufactured in England by Sankey, but it was not very successful because of the poor visibility through the mobile visor.
