Lot no. 209
Beautiful theatrical ornament. Probably for one of the characters in Giuseppe Verdi's opera Aida created in 1871 for Khedive Ismail pasha of Egypt at the Cairo Opera House. Italian work, late 19th century. Comprising a large necklace, a bodice brooch, a pair of earrings, a pair of wrist bracelets and a pair of anklets, in gilt metal with repoussé and finely chased Egyptian motifs. The set is preserved in its original shaped box, inside velvet and silk, inscribed: "A Mia Sorella (to my sister), 4 September 1883", surmounted by a crown of plenty. Some restorations, oxidation and age wear to the case, but overall good condition.
