Lot no. 14
BENOIT GYSEMBERGH (1954-2013)
80 x 53 cm. Tirage postérieur sur papier baryté.
Encadrement bois noir et passe-partout tournant. Édition 1/1.
1 500 €-2 500 €
On December 22, 2004, sixty years after her liberation, Simone Veil returns to Auschwitz-
Birkenau. It was in this death camp that the adolescent Veil spent the most terrifying
year of her life and from which neither her mother, her father nor her brother had
survived. When she returned in 2004 with Paris Match editor-in-chief Alain Genestar,
she went on only one condition: that her children and grandchildren could accompany
her. An incredible show of resilience for Veil who had become the first female minister to
serve in the 5th Republic where she would succeed in having abortion legalized.
80 x 53 cm. Printed later on fiber-based paper.
Black wooden frame, and mat. Edition 1/1.
