First printing of the engravings. The most complete edition of the Chansons and the last published during the author's lifetime. The illustrations include: 1 fold-out facsimile of a letter from Béranger to Perrotin, 1 portrait of Béranger after Sandoz, proof before the oval frame, and 52 engravings including the frontispiece of volume II, the so-called Lemud suite. The portrait and engravings are here in double state, on Chine glued before the letter (rare), on white with the letter. The frontispiece is in three states: on strong vellum (extremely rare), on Chine mounted before the letter, with the letter. 2. First illustrated edition. Contains three previously unpublished songs: Bondy, Vermine and La Rime. The illustration includes: 1 full-length portrait of Béranger, in two states, and 8 engravings, in two states, on China paper mounted before the letter, on vellum with the letter; a photograph of a death mask of Béranger, pasted on heavy vellum. The leaf with the engravings is missing. 3. Reissue of the posthumous original of 1857 and first illustrated edition: 14 engravings by Lemud, in two states.
