Green morocco with a large carved tricolour blue-white-red drapery in relief on the boards and spine, projecting slightly over the edges of the boards, lined edge to edge and endpapers in green calf, double endpapers, edges gilt on witnesses, cover and spine preserved, green morocco spine and cover bands folder, slipcase lined (Paul Bonet 1940). Rare edition, printed in an edition of only 95 copies on vellum paper on the Daragnès press, illustrated with 47 original etchings by André VILLEBŒUF (1893-1956), including 16 full-page etchings. One of 30 nominative copies accompanied by one of the 50 suites of illustrations on japon. It was printed for Mr. Étienne Vautheret. A precious copy in a triple binding by Paul Bonet, executed between July 1939 and May 1940 by Ferdinand Giraldon and gilded by Lamagnère. It is part of the rare series of Bonet's sculpted bindings, begun in 1931; they are highly sought-after today. This is the second binding Bonet produced for this work, the first being a completely different binding produced in 1938 for the 1939 San Francisco exhibition. This one was made for the Argentinian bibliophile Carlos Scherer, as Paul Bonet, one of the bookbinder's main patrons, states in his notebooks.
