Bernhard Fries (1820 Heidelberg - 1879 Munich) Pair of landscapes Counterparts. Atmospheric, light-flooded, subtly depicted landscapes from the Heidelberg hinterland. Fries enjoyed his first art lessons with J. K. Koopmann in Karlsruhe and subsequently studied at the Munich Academy and later at the Düsseldorf Academy, where he made the acquaintance of Andreas Achenbach and Alexandre Calame. Fries lived in Italy from 1838 to 1846 and finally settled in Munich. In addition to Italian landscapes, he favoured painting views of Heidelberg and its surroundings. Oil/mahogany panel (paint manufacturer Adrian Brugger, Munich). Each signed lower right; each with old paper label with handwritten ownership annotation verso. 29 cm x 39.5 cm. Frame.
