BERNIER (François). Voyages de François Bernier contenant la description des états du grand Mogol, de l'Hindoustan, du royaume de Kachemire, &c. Amsterdam, Paul Marret, 1699. 2 volumes in one in-12, first edition of a collection of several texts published separately in Paris by Barbin in 1670 and 1671, forming one of the most complete accounts of Asia at the end of the 17th century. The author, a doctor of medicine at the Montpellier Academy, was one of the first travellers to describe Kashmir and was a privileged witness to the activities of the court of the great Mogul during his voyage from 1656 to 1669. Illustrated with 13 plates, including 2 frontispieces, and 3 folding maps. Bound in full marbled basane, spine with 4 raised bands, red morocco title-piece. Ex-libris Francis Hutchinson "Non sibi sed toti". (an incomplete copy, containing the 3 maps but only one plate and one frontispiece, spine rubbed, upper spine cracked and missing).
