First edition. This marvellous novel, part of the libertine movement of the 18th century, differs from the writings of the period. Far from promoting conquest, it is presented as an initiatory tale, somewhere between a fantastic tale and an educational novel. Fictitious mention of The Hague, the edition having been printed in Paris (Weller). A few tiny scratches on the binding, small tear in the margin on page H.
