Lot no. 13
[BIBLIA LATINA cum postillis Nicolai de Lyra et Questiones...]. Venice, Fr Renner de Heilbronn, 1482-1483; third and last part alone in a very large vol. in-folio of [452] by [463] ff., worn but solid binding, brown half-calf from the first half of the 19th century, three-ribbed spine, (very large endpapers). Imposing incunabulum edition thanks to Nicolas de Lyra's extensive framing gloss. The printer Franz Renner produced fifty books in Venice between 1471 and 1486. The volume contains the New Testament, a treatise against the Israelites and the Questions of Paulus de Sancta Maria (from Burgos). Nicolas de Lyra influenced early authors as well as Martin Luther.
The volume is entirely rubricated in red and blue, and contains a large number of initials calligraphed in red and blue, as well as others ornamented in three colors with filiform antennae. These add charm to the particularly pleasing layout, with the Bible text sometimes occupying a small space amidst the rich commentary.
The 5 leaves at the beginning, the blank leaf 69/9 and the following two, and ff. p.8 and s6 are missing. The few surviving copies are almost all incomplete.
