The bulk of the work consists of the 105 plates of Bidloo's Anatomia humani corporis, of which Cowper purchased 300 copies in 1698. In the first editions of his version, Cowper had expanded the text and enriched the illustrations with 9 additional plates, probably executed by Abraham Bloteling (1640-1690).
