Lot no. 38
[BIDLOO (Govard)]. COWPER (William). Anatomia corporum humanorum centum et viginti tabulis, maxima parte ad naturalem magnitudinem singulari artificio, nec minori elegentia ab excellentissimis, qui in Europa sunt. Utrecht, Nicolas Muntendam, 1750, large folio, half-box, marbled edges (modern binding). Frontispiece, illustrated engraved title, 69 ff. of text and 119 anatomical plates. The bulk of the work consists of the 105 plates of Bidloo's Anatomia humani corporis, of which Cowper purchased 300 copies in 1698. In the first editions of his version, Cowper had expanded the text and enriched the illustrations with 9 additional plates, probably executed by Abraham Bloteling (1640-1690). This second Latin edition also includes 5 additional plates showing the organs of reproduction, which are here in the first edition. Some foxing. Blake 102 - Nordman 529.
