Lot no. 10
BIGOT DE MOROGUES (Alphonse). Souvenirs de la Sicile. Orléans et Paris, Gatineau, 1836; large in-4 (337 x 254 mm), half olive calf, smooth spine decorated with gilt iron (period binding). One large vignette and 24 beautiful lithographed plates after drawings by the author: Taormina, Palermo, Agrigento, the Stromboli, Catania.... One of them shows Morogues, his drawing board under his arm, preparing to draw the collapsed columns of the temples of Selinunte and the large title vignette shows him, leaning on his walking stick in front of the ruins, receiving explanations from an old hermit. Probably printed in a small number. Only 2 copies in the CCFR (BNF and Orléans), both incomplete with plates. A very fine copy in an elegant contemporary binding. Scattered foxing, more pronounced on one plate.
