Lot no. 22
RESPONSIBLE JEWELRY by SASKIA SHUTT
This ring has been handcrafted using the lost wax technique and Fairmined silver from the Iquira mine in Colombia, one of the pioneering ethical mines. Being part of an agromine cooperative, and being Fairmined certified for 6 consecutive years, has enabled the company to set up sustainable practices that respect the environment and protect workers during the Covid pandemic. The low environmental impact is extremely important, as the miners' families also make a living from sensible farming practices such as growing coffee and bananas. The ring is set with eco-friendly stones, including a two-tone 'watermelon' tourmaline from Brazil and three small natural pink sapphires from the Ilakaka mine in Madagascar. This unique creation was made in 2024 especially for the MAD course in Brussels, which promotes Belgian design.
