BOBO, Burkina Faso Hardwood, pigments, seeds. A crest mask depicting a stylised antelope head with two long blackened and ridged horns, a bird's beak mouth and eyes symbolised by seeds. It appears at harvest time in annual rites called "birewa dâga". Height: 44 cm. Width: 29.5 cm. Slight erosion and wear Provenance: Collection of Patrice CHRISTY, an acknowledged specialist in wildlife conservation, particularly in Africa. He has co-authored several works on biodiversity, and his work has made a major contribution to understanding and preserving bird species in Africa, particularly in Gabon and Sâo-Tomé et Principe. All his objects were collected in the 1970s.
