Small in-4, marbled calf, ornate spine, interior roulette, marbled edges (Modern binding). A famous and beautiful edition of Boccaccio's masterpiece, compiled by the Florentine humanist Leonardo Salviati (1539-1589), one of the founders of the Academia della Crusca, at the request of Francis I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany.
It is printed in italics and decorated with handsome historiated lettering.
This copy is enriched with a letter addressed to the Royal Archaeological Institute from the 1870s praising the rarity of the edition.
