A VENICE MAIOLICA VASE, CIRCA 1560-1570; WORN AS USUAL, DEFECTS, PROBABLE RESTORATION, MINOR LOSSES AND GLAZE DEFECTS
Of remarkable quality, the illustrated maiolica appears to be characteristic of the best production of Mastro Domenico and his workshop in these years. In particular, the two sirens holding the oval pharmaceutical cartouche recall the medallion with the reserve with Peleus and Thetis in the large jug in the Museo Correr, Venice (L. Mallè, Maioliche italiane dalle origini al Settecento, Milan 1974, no. 38).
