POLYCHROME FAIENCE BOWL, GERACE CALABRO KILN, XVII-XVIII CENTURY decorated with busts in reserve on a Venetian background; wear, some firing defects, craquelure, minor loss of material at the edges H 30 cm, diam. 27 cm A GERACE CALABRO MAIOLICA VASE, 17TH-18TH CENTURY; WORN, FEW MINOR FIRING DEFECTS, THE RIMS WITH MINOR LOSSES The name of Giacomo Cefali, a maiolica maker active from the first quarter of the 17th century, and known for a few rare signed examples, such as the vase formerly belonging to the trousseau of the Farmacia dell'Ospedale Grande in Messina, dated 1617, has been put forward for this bowl. Certainly, the maiolica published here is a rare example of Gerace production, which has only recently taken on more precise contours.
