BOECK (Kurt). Indische Gletscherfahrten. Reisen und Erlebnisse im Himalaja. Leipzig, Haessel, 1924. In-8°, publisher's illustrated cloth binding. Second edition, illustrated with 65 plates hors-texte, in fine, including one fold-out. Important work describing a trip to Sikkim and the Nanda Devi tour. Also included: - BECHTOLD (Fritz): Deutsche am Nanga Parbat. Der Angriff. Munich, Bruckmann, 1941. In-8°, publisher's half cloth binding. New edition, illustrated with 118 photographs and 5 maps. An account of the German expedition to Nanga Parbat in 1934. This expedition, led by W. Merckl, included strong climbers such as Willo Welzembach. The top team reached an altitude of 7,850 metres, but were surprised by a terrible snowstorm. Some decided to descend, others to wait for an improvement. The very poor conditions and the heavy snowfall made the retreat catastrophic: Wieland, Merckl, Welzembach and six sherpas lost their lives. With the death of Drexel at the start of the expedition, a victim of mountain sickness, this tragic expedition resulted in the disappearance of 10 people. - BAUER (Paul): Auf Kundfahrt im Himalaya. Sinioluchu und Nanga Parbat; Tat und Schicksal deutscher Bergsteiger. Munich, Knorr & Hirth, 1937. In-4°, publisher's cloth binding. The ascent of Sinioluchu (6,891 m), a superb mountain in the Himalayas of Sikkim, was made in 1936. The 1937 expedition to Nanga Parbat, led by Dr. Wien, resulted in one of the greatest tragedies in the Himalayas: an avalanche buried 7 members of the expedition and 9 Sherpas, killing a total of 16 people. Ex-dono dated 1938 on the flyleaf, handwritten bookplate across the title page. - DEUTSCHER HIMALAJA STIFTUNG MÜNCHEN: Nanga Parbat. Berg der Kamaraden.
