Biography :
Joseph, Prince Poniatowski (1763-1813)
After fighting the Russians (1792) and defending Warsaw against the Prussians (1794), Napoleon appointed him Minister of War for the Grand Duchy of Warsaw (1806). He distinguished himself in Galicia against the Austrians (1809) and during the Russian campaign. Marshal of the Empire at Leipzig (16 October 1813), he drowned in the Elster while protecting the French retreat.
