Origin : Former Napoleonic collection of the Prince's Palace of Monaco (3rd sale, lot 264) Biography : Joseph, Prince Poniatowski (1763-1813) After fighting the Russians (1792) and defending Warsaw against the Prussians (1794), Napoleon appointed him Minister of War for the Grand Duchy of Warsaw (1806). He distinguished himself in Galicia against the Austrians (1809) and during the Russian campaign.
