Lot no. 37
Round octagonal box superbly enamelled with champlevé and decorated with diamonds in late 19th-early 20th century 18k (750 thousandths) yellow gold. On the lid, the transparent red "Lal Zamin" enamel is predominant and each part is adorned with diamond leaves and rose-cut diamonds set using the "kundan" gold leaf technique, which is the mastery of setting a stone by superimposing extremely fine gold leaves on its sides, avoiding the need to use claws to hold the stone. This method of setting is ideal for fragile stones, such as fine diamond leaves. On the base, white enamel alternates between bird and plant motifs. The inside of the lid is enamelled green with a flower in the centre. Beautiful finely engraved and enamelled plant decoration under the four-lobed box. From a private collection of a Belgian noble family. Jaipur enamels, Rajasthan.
