Lot no. 36
[BONAPARTE Joseph]. Moïna ou la Villageoise du Mont-Cenis. Paris, Honnert, An VII (1799); in-16 of [4]-103 pp. in contemporary binding of porphyry calf, fillets, chains and gilt roulettes framing the boards, smooth spine decorated with urnes and fleurons, green parts, gilt inner greek, gilt edges. Extremely rare first edition of the only literary work by Joseph Bonaparte, future King of Naples, written at the age of thirty, just before the coup d'état of 18 Brumaire. From an early age, Joseph Bonaparte showed a marked inclination and real talent for fictional literature. A charming and elegant copy of this literary rarity. Quérard, Les Bonaparte et leurs œuvres littéraires, 1845, p. 47 - Monglond, IV, 1113.
