Gaesbeeck, J. de Vivie & P. van der Aa, 1685. 2 parts in one volume in-4, ivory vellum with flaps, speckled edges (Binding of the period). 8 ff. n.c., 274 pp. (misquoted 280), 8 ff. n.c., 274 pp. - 2 ff. 365 (1) pp. 8 ff. - 18 folding plates hors-texte. Second edition of this treatise which founded the era of cardiology. It was first published in Rome in 1680-81. "Borelli originated the neurogenic theory of the heart's action and first suggested that the circulation resembled a simple hydraulic system. He was the first to insist that the heart beat was a simple muscular contraction...", says Morton. The edition is decorated with a fine allegorical title-frontispiece, the 18 folding plates show anatomical figures, views of physical experiments on the work of muscles in man and animal. One quire foxed, otherwise a fine copy. Morton 762 (who does not know this edition) - Krivatsy 1579.
