Third (second Frankfurt) German edition. - VD16 M 1615 - Nissen 1311 - Pritzel 3990 - Plesch 514 - One of the best-known and most beautiful herb books. - In the Frankfurt editions "Camerarius used the figures he bought from Conrad Gesner, the others are cut from the smaller figures of the Valgrisi edition" (Nissen), but mostly redrawn and increased by 200 illustrations and texts compared to the Handsch edition (cf. Isphoring 82). Gessner's existing illustrations also had to be adapted to the format of the existing printing blocks. Camerarius had over half of the plant illustrations redrawn and around 80 per cent of the printing blocks recut (Isphoring). - Expertly restored copy throughout with replaced title page in copy (erroneous edition 1563). Existing leaves of the prefaces with professionally repaired losses (3 leaves of which with loss of text), herbal complete (initially with restorations and small repaired corner defects (without loss of text), partly waterstained in outer margins, browned throughout, (incomplete) existing index leaves restored at the end with repaired losses.
