Red marocco with staggered gilt fillets and corner fleurons, covers each with gilt embossed armorial supralibros (coat of arms scratched out), gilt back (rubbed, rubbed and bumped, spine somewhat discoloured and brittle, small restored defect to upper capital). Nissen BBI 385 (lists only 112 copper for pars 1) and ZBI 927 (appendix) - SNHF NUM A1202. - Pritzel 1823 - Krivatsy 2619-2620 - Parkinson-L. 564 and 566 - Plesch 142 - Not in Hunt and de Belder. - Extremely rare, largely botanical description of the Colonna, expanded by several zoological sections. The preface describes the difficulties of the edition and the places where the plants were found, including Crete, Cyprus, Greece and Egypt as well as Italy. He also criticises the quality of the illustrations in Dioscurides (probably Matthiolus). - Colonna (1567-1640) was originally a legal scholar and came to botanical and scientific research as a result of his epilepsy. The beautiful engravings are each framed by an ornamental border. Colonna was a member of the Regia Lynceorum Academia in Rome. - Paper somewhat browned, somewhat brownstained, mostly somewhat fingerstained in margins, 1 title page with erased ownership entry and small backed spot. Overall a well-preserved copy, the filigree plates with delicate plate tone throughout. Botany and Zoology. - 3 vols. and supplement in 1 vol.
