Lot no. 2648
[BOTANICS]. Nederlandsch Bloemwerk door een Gezelschap Geleerden. Amsterdam, J.B. Elwe, 1794. In-4° bound in blond half calf, smooth spine decorated with gilt (later binding). II, [1] f., 125 pp., [6] pp. decorated with an engraved title and 53 titled and numbered watercolour plates. A classic of 18th-century Dutch botany, this work gives an account of the meteoric rise and renown acquired by nurserymen in this region and of emblematic flower species such as the tulip. The engraved illustration, carefully enhanced with watercolours, is generally attributed to Paul Theodor van Brussel, who signed the engraved title. Very good condition, some rare foxing to certain plates.
