AMSET HEAD STOPPER
This canopic vase stopper is shaped like the head of Amset. Imsety, the human-headed son of Horus, protected the liver of the deceased and was in turn protected by the goddess Isis. It seems that his role was to help revive the dead body. Wearing a tripartite wig, leaving the ears uncovered, the beard is short and streaked. The eyes and eyebrows are finely sculpted. The short beard and wig are painted light blue, the eyes and eyebrows black. The irises of the eyes are marked in red. The face and ears are painted yellow. For similar canopic stoppers, see George A. Reisner, Canopics. (General Catalogue of the Cairo Museum, nos. 4001-4740 and 4977-5033)
