BOURRIT (Marc-Théodore). Nouvelle description des glacières, vallées de glace et glaciers qui forment la grande chaîne des Alpes de Savoie, de Suisse et d'Italie. Genève, Barde, Manget & Cie ; Paris, Buisson, 1787. 3 volumes in one in-8, spotted calf, smooth spine decorated, title-pieces, daffodil edges (Binding of the period). New edition, combining the volume on the Mont Blanc range published in 1785 and the two volumes on the Pennine and Rhetian Alps published in 1781 and republished in 1785. This copy comes from the first of the two editions published in that year. The illustrations consist of a fold-out map of the Alps and 13 out-of-text etched views by Moitte based on the author's drawings. These show various glaciers, the Valais and the Rhône, the Devil's Bridge, the Grindelwald glacier, Lake Chède and Mont Blanc, and the Chamonix valley. An attractive copy with good margins and in fine condition. The tables of the three volumes are grouped together at the end of the volume. Pale stain towards the end of the first volume. Perret, n°660.
