BOW BROOCH - former Kofler-Truniger collection Eastern Hungary, Gepidic, 1st half of the 6th century AD. Silver parcel-gilt and set with almandine garnets. Six profiled knobs with semicircular cells, profiled bow and lozenge-shaped base. The inner fields are decorated with a spiral pattern. L 13.9 cm. A few losses. Gilding slightly rubbed. Provenance: - Estate of Alois Riegl, Vienna, at least since 1923. - Dr. Adalbert Panek, Vienna (according to index card). - Collection Ernst and Marthe Kofler-Truniger (1918–1999 & 1918–1999) Lucerne, purchased on 29 September 1952 from the above (inv. no. K8047A). - Swiss private collection, Lucerne, acquired from the above in ca. 1974. - By inheritance in the same Swiss family collection, Lucerne. Exhibited: Kunsthaus Zurich, Collection E. and M.
