NOTE Prabha (1933 – 2001) was a prolific Indian artist primarily known for her oil on canvas works. She is celebrated for her graceful, elongated figures of contemplative rural women, each depicted in a dominant single colour. By the time of her death, her work had been featured in over 50 exhibitions and had become part of significant art collections, including India's National Gallery of Modern Art, the TIFR Art Collection, and the Air India Art Collection. Prabha began her career during a period when India had few women artists. She was profoundly inspired by the seminal modernist Amrita Sher-Gil. Like Sher-Gil, the central figures in Prabha's artworks were often women. She was deeply affected by the hardships faced by rural women, which over time became the central theme of her work. In an interview with Youngbuzz India, she stated, I have yet to see one happy woman. Her paintings also explored a wide range of subjects, including landscapes and social issues such as droughts, hunger, and homelessness. .
