Lot no. 54
BRASSAÏ
Transmutations.
In-folio (38,3 x 28,5 cm), in ff. box.
Portfolio of 12 laminated photographic prints by Brassaï, based on his gelatino-silver bromide negatives, engraved by him.
Inspired by Picasso's cliché-verre technique, Brassaï engraved his own negatives, transforming his photographs into veritable engravings.
Limited edition of 110 numbered copies on Arches vellum paper, signed by the artist; one of only 100 available (no. 16).
"The engravings in this album date from 1934-35. What impulse did I obey, what temptation did I succumb to by taking a few glass plates and engraving them" (Brassaï).
A very fine copy.
