Lot no. 1307
Wroclaw Kuron, Herbert View of Wroclaw. Oil on canvas. 68 x 80.5 cm. Signed. Framed in a golden stucco frame. Herbert Kuron was born in Wroclaw in 1930 and spent his formative youth there before he was forced to leave his homeland due to the turmoil of war. After the Second World War, when he regained a foothold in Germany, the memory of Wroclaw remained alive in many of his works. His paintings and prints often show a connection to his lost homeland - be it through atmospheric cityscapes or through a certain melancholy reflected in his colour compositions. Kuron's artistic expression was thus characterised not only by personal experiences, but also by an examination of historical upheavals and loss of identity. - Canvas slightly wavy due to age as well as some stains in places. Very good overall. Calm, charming composition, the colours fresh. Oil on canvas. Signed.
