[BRETAGNE]. Coustumes, establissemens et ordonnances du pays et duche de Bretaigne. S.l.n.n. [Rennes, Jean Baudouyn], 1528. In-8, jansenist black morocco, gilt inner lace, gilt edges (18th century binding). A precious and extremely rare edition of the customs of Brittany. This is the first of two editions published in Rennes by Jean Baudouyn (the second dates from 1531), with the mysterious inscription "ex carracteribus parrhisiis" at the bottom of the title. It contains the full text of the Constitutions and Ordinances of 1525. This Rennes edition is printed in Gothic script with the title in red and black and numerous ornate letters. A full-page woodcut depicting the Adoration of the Magi adorns the verso of f. ccix. A copy in an elegant antique binding in Jansenist black morocco. Handwritten bookplate of Codez, Doctor agrégé of the Faculty of Law of Rennes, 1779, and long note signed Baron du Taya, 1838, on the first endpapers. Baron du Taya is the author of Brocéliande, ses chevaliers et quelques légendes. Brown staining in the lower margin of part of the leaves. Binding skilfully restored.
