Lot no. 8
BRETON (André)
S. l., 20 March 1917...
Autograph poem signed, entitled "André Derain".
1 p. small in-8.
Interesting early poem by Breton, dedicated to André Derain, published in his first collection, Mont de piété, in June 1919 by Au sans Pareil.
A very fine and rare tribute by the poet to the painter who illustrated his very first book:
"Sing - finches - / dressers and pots raw in poet. / It is heard of patina to velouter; / the evening a flower of brooms / its horn you lutine / Oh! as long as a snowy Olympe déjeunait / he resented / to its brightness? Apple trees. - Dreamy / mystical hands / these swaddling clothes as blue as an icicle, / the human / shudders, and you: the first-born is the angel! [...] ".
Breton was 21 at the time and had just returned to Paris from the front, where he was posted to the Val-de-Grâce. André Derain illustrated Mont de Piété.
