[BRILLAT-SAVARIN (Jean-Anthelme). Physiologie du goût, ou Méditations de gastronomie transcendante. Paris, A Sautelet & Cie, 1826. 2 volumes in-8, red glazed half calf, spines decorated with gilt and blind tooling, marbled edges (period binding). A former magistrate, Grimod owes his fame to this work, which he wrote slowly in his spare time and which combines philosophy, recipes and reminiscences. Grimod praised him, Balzac praised him and his aphorisms are known the world over, such as the famous "Tell me what you eat and I'll tell you what you are".
The letter E has been returned in the publisher's address, as always.
A fine copy.
