A pair of Victorian portraits of a married couple
Finely glazed, representative and subtly characterising bust portraits of a wealthy couple, painted 1835-1846, oil on canvas, old backing on card. Approx. 17 cm x 13 cm. Frame.
According to the old labels and adhesive labels on the reverse, the couple are "Dr William Ranken of Whitehall and Glenlogan" (1794 - 1867) and his wife since 1835 Mary Anne Ramsey Campbell (1814 - 1846). Ranken was born in Sorn/Aryshire/Scotland in 1794, lived for a time in Demerara/British Guiana/South America and died in Glenlogan/New South Wales/Australia in 1867.
