Wine jug
Made of cast pewter and repaired. Ovoid body, with a short neck and a pinched spout; the handle is ringed on the inside. Features a humorous design depicting two devils armed with pitchforks; one has impaled a child, whilst the other is pushing a second child into a cauldron placed over a blazing fire, fuelled by a third little devil. On the body of the jug, a cartouche is engraved with the name of a tavern: ‘A LA CHAUDIERE’.
