GOLD AND PEARLS BROOCH,ORISA Weight approx.21,3 g,dimensions approx.6,4 x 6,0 cm A GOLD AND PEARL BROOCH, ORISA ANNA BAJETTO BACCHELLI (ORISA) Rome, 1898 - Turin, 1975 A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts, Anna Bajetto Bacchelli - known as Orisa - was one of the most original creators of Turin jewellery between the 1930s and 1960s. Wife of the Bacchelli goldsmith, she designed jewellery for him and for prestigious houses such as Van Cleef & Arpels and Buccellati. The first woman to obtain a driving licence in Italy, she was also a pioneer among businesswomen. A refined illustrator working in silverpoint, she drew her inspiration from nature. Her creations, sold under the name Orisa, seduced the House of Savoy and the Vanderbilts. A devout Catholic, she refused a commission from Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in the 1960s, disapproving of their affair.
