BROOCH WITH ALMANDINE GARNETS - former Kofler-Truniger collection
Frankish, 6th century AD.
Gilt silver. Semi-circular top plate with five long, strongly profiled knobs with almandine garnets and glass inlays. Vine ornamentation and double pearl border on the top plate. Cross-grooved bow transitioning into a wide foot, set with three domed almandine garnets, framed by zigzag ornamentation, pearl frieze, and punched decoration.
7.8 × 4.7 cm.
Gilding with minimal losses. Little verdigris. Back with small repair to the knob. Corroded.
