Provenance: - Auction Fischer, Lucerne, 21 June 2004, lot 1003 (as Bruges, c. 1520). - Collection Dr Sylvia Legrain. The panel offered here has stylistic similarities with the early work of Jan Provost (1462-1525), who worked in Bruges. A compositionally interesting comparison can be found with the painting of the enthroned Mary with St Jerome and St John the Baptist and a kneeling Carthusian monk in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (inv. no. SK-A-2569).
