Edition printed by Didot l'aîné, illustrated with 4 folding maps, 9 plates in black and 190 zoological plates in period colours, engraved under the direction of Couché fils after Vauthier, collected in volumes 29 and 30. Decorative series in handsome signed contemporary bindings. The copy includes the complete Œuvres complètes de Buffon (t. 1-28) and the two volumes of plates (t. 29-30), but not Cuvier's Complément sur les progrès des sciences physiques et naturelles (4 vols.) and the table (1 vol.). The portrait of Buffon, the engraved title and some plates are missing (including Birds nos. 3 and 7). Minor rubbing to bindings, some foxing. Nissen, ZBI, n°696.
