Posthumous edition, enlarged by Charles-Nicolas-Sigisbert de Manoncourt. It is illustrated with 1057 hors-texte copper engravings and two frontispiece portraits: that of Buffon engraved by Dupréel in the first volume, and that of Sonnini in vol. 65 engraved by Voysard after Langlois de Sézanne. The text is supplemented by 8 maps and 16 fold-out tables. In this edition, Sonnini has integrated the Supplements directly "in their proper place". Consultation of the tables of the various volumes and the partially digitised copy on Gallica indicate that 12 plates are missing from this copy. Details of plates by volume on request. The third volume of the Introduction to the History of Minerals, the first volume of Crustacea and Insects, 1 volume of Cetacea and 6 volumes of Molluscs are missing. The second volume of the Théorie de la terre contains corrections and handwritten notes in the margins. Bindings a little worn, some soiling, tears and staining to leaves, a few leaves folded, a few wormholes, missing centre of plate XCIC and page 161 of vol. 85, plate I of vol. 21 torn, scattered brown ink stains, ink scribbles on some pages of vols. 18, 31, 36, 85, 102, 115, on about 5 plates.
