Born in Hanoi in 1957, Bui Huu Hung developed a fascination for the subtle art of lacquer at the age of eighteen. In order to deepen his knowledge of this medium, he travelled to the villages where workshops using the old techniques still existed. He completed this practical training with an academic course at the University of Fine Arts in Indochina. He has been a member of the Association des Artistes Vietnamiens since 1986 and of the Association Internationale des Artistes Laqueurs since 1996.
