Founded in 1801 under the direction of Jean-Antoine Chaptal, then Napoleon Bonaparte's Minister of the Interior, the S.E.I.N's mission was to promote industry and national economic progress by encouraging technical innovation. The society's monthly bulletin was an important communication tool, promoting national and foreign literature on these subjects, as well as reporting on advances in research by publishing experiments and trials commissioned by the S.E.I.N. and validated by a committee of experts.
An interesting work on the state of industry and innovation under Louis-Philippe I in a fine binding with the imperial coat of arms.
Binding slightly rubbed, tear with slight loss in the margin of one of the figures, stain in the margin of page 549, light foxing on some leaves.
