The Life of Arseniev is a prose work in five parts by Ivan Bunin, written in France. Most of the work was completed in 1929. The first publications of individual chapters began in 1927 in the Parisian newspaper Rossiya. Three years later, the author began work on the sequel - the final part, Lika. Arseniev's life was published as a separate book in 1930 (Paris, Sovremennye Zapiski publishing house). The first complete edition was published by the Chekhov publishing house in New York (1952). In 1933, Bunin became the first Russian writer to win the Nobel Prize; according to the writer, this recognition is mainly due to The Life of Arseniev. The fifth book was completed in 1933 and published in two issues of Sovremennye Zapiski (Nos. 52 and 53).
