BUREAU À GRADIN Louis XVI style, Paris, c. 1880, signed G. Durand (Gervais-Maximilien-Eugène Durand, 1839-1920). Mahogany. Rectangular top set in brass rod with brown leather upholstery, on a five-legged frame with knee recess and fluted, tapered legs with bronze sabots. The top has a recessed top with a central niche flanked by two drawers, the corners rounded and fluted. The sides and back panel moulded. Pierced brass gallery, fine bronze mounts in the form of pearl rods, acanthus leaves, flowers and cartouche-shaped key plates. 2 keys. 131 × 72 × 109 cm. Slightly faded in places. Water stains on the leather and tears. Few missing parts. Gervais-Maximilien-Eugène Durand worked in several Parisian workshops in the last quarter of the 19th century and specialised in the production of high-quality furniture in the style of the 18th century, which was presented at world exhibitions. When his son Frédéric-Louis joined the company around 1890, it changed its name to Durand et Fils.
