DE NECKER" DESK Mahogany and mahogany veneer cylinder desk. The front opens to reveal a writing surface, two pigeonholes and four drawers. The lower section opens to reveal five drawers in three rows. The upper part is a filing cabinet with a sliding shutter revealing eight compartments and four drawers resting on a large document drawer. The lock is engraved "1777 - NECKER - 1789". Late Louis XVI period. Height: 190 cm - Width: 130 cm - Depth: 65 cm (Accidents, missing parts and restorations, added elements) This desk, whose general construction is similar to that of the cabinetmaker Roetgen, is reputed to have belonged to Jacques Necker (1732-1804) in his capacity as Director General of Finance of the Kingdom of France, a position he actually held twice between 1777 and 1789.
