A flat desk in "Boulle" marquetry of brass on a tortoiseshell base, the recessed belt opening into three drawers, the sides adorned in the centre with a satyr mask, the curved legs ending in leafy claws, the top covered in leather and encircled by a moulding applied to the spandrels with rocaille shells. Rich ormolu ornamentation. Some bronzes attributable to Joseph-Emmanuel Zwiener, notably the mascarons.
Inspired by André-Charles Boulle, from the Napoleon III period.

Joseph-Emmanuel Zwiener was a cabinetmaker of German origin born in 1849. He owned a large workshop on rue de la Roquette, which was active from 1880 to 1895 and won a gold medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition.
