Burhan DOGANCAY (né en 1929), École turque Antiques, 1965 Acrylique, collage, technique mixte, sur toile 203,2 x 203,2 cm - 80 x 80 in. Bibliographie : Moyer et Messer Dogançay, New York, 1986 p. 64 Antiques, 1965 Acrylic, collage, mixed, media on canvas. As early as 1964 the painter and photographer Burhan Dogançay began to draw his inspiration primarily from urban walls. Walls serve as a testament to the passage of time, reflecting social, political and economic change. They also bear witness to the assault of the elements and to the markings left by people. Antiques is a fine example of one of Dogancay's early collage/mixed media renditions of a billboard in New York City. Over the last four decades, Dogancay has created a monumental photographic documentary of urban walls in over 100 countries, a project that has few parallels in the history of photography. In 1982, the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris was the first to present Dogançay's "Walls of the World" photographs as a one-man exhibition entitled Les murs murmurent, ils crient, ils chantent... During a four-year period the exhibition subsequently traveled to other museums and cultural centers throughout France and then to the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Montreal. Dogancay's has also photographed urban monuments. In the follor series, he explores the Brooklyn Bridge, universally regarded as one of the architectural wonders of the world. Burhan Dogançay is the recipient of many awards and his work is in the permanent collections of the world's leading museums, including New York's Guggenheim Museum, MoMA, Metropolitan Museum, Whitney Museum and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. The Dogancay Museum, consecrated exclusively to the work of the artist, was opened in Istanbul in 2004, the first contemporary art museum un Turkey. 60 000 / 80 000 €
