BYZANTINE GOLD PLAQUE WITH CHRIST, SAINTS AND ANGELS.
Ca. AD 1200 - 1300.
A gold repoussé plaque of arched rectangular form. The scene is arranged beneath a tripartite arcade with columns. In the central bay stands nimbate Christ, right hand raised in blessing and left holding a book. He is flanked by two nimbate saints facing inward, one presenting a wreath and the other a book. Above the arches, two flying angels hold long branches and frame a small cross. A plain border encloses the scene, and the reverse is flat.
