BYZANTINE HIGH KARAT GOLD CROSS PENDANT WITH CENTRAL AGATE CABOCHON.
Ca. AD 600 - 800 A gold cross pendant centred by an oval agate set in a raised bezel, the short rectangular arms decorated with a relief pattern of pinched bosses interspersed with small granules. A cylindrical suspension tube with scroll ornament in relief and beaded rims is attached above the upper arm. Size: 31mm x 25mm; Weight: 3.66g. Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Germany; formerly with S.T. collection, Switzerland, 1980s-2000s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
